![]() ![]() First time I saw the lost valley my mouth dropped. I still remember to this day when the demo was released on PC. This is down to Lara’s design and visual level design. So, the final chapter of this little review of Tomb Raider Anniversary, Level Design. I know some people liked it but nope, I preferred Legend, I felt like a female 007 being all fancy and cool but hey I preferred it. It got repetitive and boring very quickly. Oh, look I’m trying to reload whilst dodging aaaaaand now the bear hit me. It was still very simple with the adrenaline dodge being my biggest pet peeve.Īt first, I was like “oh my this is great, one shot head shot kills this will be fun…” again, and again…. Sadly, however apart from slight improvement on movement and a couple additional moves there wasn’t a huge difference. I enjoyed the new grapple, I felt they really improved her the wall run itself however needed to be improved slightly, I did feel sometimes she wouldn’t do what I wanted especially when jumping backward but that could just have been me? The other new editions like balancing on beams was a nice touch and It did make me feel a bit more immersed into the world having those extra moves. I played on the PlayStation so I didn’t get any cramps in my finger, but I would like to hear if it was frustrating for the PC gamers reading. I really enjoyed having the press separately for each shot. ![]() Lara herself I felt moved smoother, the gun play I felt was better. The gameplay I feel was a nice improvement compared to Legend. It wasn’t the story I know and love, I was just left disappointed. Only for her to destroy the artifact apologizing to her father and then apparently becoming the Lara croft we all know and love, but I just didn’t feel it. But hey, that was the only time I felt like I saw a bad ass in the game and then it was ruined by the awesome “Oh my god I just killed a human for the first time” that had no effect on me personally it wasn’t done right. My favorite bit in the entire game was the interactive cutscene shooting Larson. Obviously not everyone will feel the same as maybe this game was your first if so, in that case it’s not horrendous and I can see why people liked it. In my eyes they hadn’t done the original justice for a story. The story was dull, nothing grabbed me like the previous game in the trilogy. I’m not saying it was bad as I personally didn’t mind the whole Lara having a reason for finding the artifacts but personally, I just wanted a modern release with a little twist on the story not basically a completely new game. Would have been okay if every cut-scene wasn’t mentioning her father. The story-line went from being a woman who only “played for sport” and wanted the money in the original became a family orientated story-line. It wasn’t so bad but basically Lara is tracked down by a henchman called Larson by his boss Natla who then convinces her to look for an artifact which conveniently her father was looking for many years ago after the death of his wife and Lara’s mother Amelia. Trailers can be viewed online as well as other concept artsĬrystal Dynamics then took over putting their own twist on the original story line trying to implement it into their trilogy idea. ![]() This would have followed the original story-line down to a T but sadly it was stopped mid production. It was originally being designed and made by the original developers Core Design. But before I started this game was supposed to be the 10-year anniversary of the games release. If you are a classic fan like me and have played since day one, we are all fully aware what the basic story of anniversary is. So please do not get all defensive and for the original only fans, yes core Lara is the best, we don’t need that opinion thrown at us either. ![]() Obviously, this is all personal preferences so not everyone will feel the same. In the reviews I will talk about the pros and cons for storylines, level design, gameplay etc. For people who would like a reminder I am reviewing the LAU Trilogy and then the origins trilogy. So, after a long wait between the last review I finally have a new computer to start reviewing again. ![]()
